Happy Fourth of July!

This is from the 1970 John Wayne Salute to America Variety Show. We’ve all probably seen it numerous times but no matter how many times I see it, I still get moved. Thanks to Grover for sending me the YouTube link.

Have I Told You Lately…

(From 6/5/2019) Van Morrison recorded this song with The Chieftans in 1995. This version appeared on the group’s album The Long Black Veil and earned a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

For many years I thought this was just a typical, nice love song.  Then someone told me to listen closer to the lyrics…

Also of note this week, Paul Gagnon earned a special award for his performance last week.  When you see him, make sure you ask about it!

Sunday Jazz – Erroll Garner…again

(From 9/8/2019) Last December I posted a music video of Erroll Garner playing “Where or When” and mentioned his other hit, “Misty”. Well, last night at the SLOTs tournament (NOTE: This is now Ginger’s Billiards Open), I popped in one of my old CD’s that I stashed away from when we played CEO up there.   About halfway thru, I heard Erroll and it reminded me to see if I could find a version of “Misty” out there…

Where or When-sday — Nat King Cole

Nat King Cole was the first African American man to host an American television series. Cole recorded “Sweet Lorraine” in 1940, and it became his first hit. According to legend, his career as a vocalist started when a drunken bar patron demanded that he sing the song. Cole said that this fabricated story sounded good, so he didn’t argue with it.

Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert

It’s that time again — Friday With Frank!

Frank Sinatra: A Man and His Music was a one-hour television special in color, first broadcast by NBC on November 24, 1965, to mark the occasion of Frank Sinatra’s 50th birthday. I got a feeling there’s going to be quite a few sing-alongs here..-:)…

Doobie Brothers – Hall of Fame

I was watching the Sunday Morning Show this past weekend and they had a segment on the Doobie Brothers being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this week.  So I thought it was time for some solid, straight-ahead rock and came across this Doobie Brothers live concert.

Your Dose of Weekend Jazz – Compared to What!

Another one of the dozens of songs that are in my Top-10 list today.  This video was recorded on June 21, 1969 at The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and features Les McCann on piano and vocals along with Eddie “Lockjaw” Harris on sax. It’s a little grainy but hang in there for the lyrics…
