Smooth Sunday Jazz – Chris Botti

Time to ease into the week and start off your morning coffee time with some smooth jazz.  It’s been over a year since I posted any Chris Botti.  This one is a lot more mellow than the previous one that was meant to be cranked up.  If you want to check it out afterwards, just click here.

In the meantime, here’s a nice rendition of “Cinema Paradiso” that Botti performed at the Newport Jazz Festival in 2006.  This will bring a smile to someone who needs it while she’s in the hospital.  Enjoy…!

Flashback Friday – Little Feat

These guys put together one of my favorite live albums.  I still keep quite a few of the songs from it in the car.  This song is one of those and is a live recording – just not from that album.  It has the added benefit though of having 3 great singers joining the band – Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt and Jessie Winchester.

The group was formed by lead vocalist and guitarist Lowell George, bassist Roy Estrada (both formerly of the Mothers of Invention), keyboardist Bill Payne, and drummer Richie Hayward in 1969. The band’s classic line-up, in place by late 1972, consisted of George, Payne, Hayward, bassist Kenny Gradney, guitarist and vocalist Paul Barrere, and percussionist Sam Clayton.  I have a memorial post for Paul Barrere here if you want to check it out too.

David Pogue Presentation at Rohan

If you weren’t able to attend the David Pogue book tour presentation put on by The Villages Apple User Group (TVAUG) this past Thursday, we live-streamed it and put the recording up on YouTube.  I thought some of you may be interested – even if you don’t own any Apple products…yet.

You may know David Pogue from CBS News Sunday Morning as a correspondent there but he is also an author and avid Apple fan and speaker.  He wrote a new book, “Apple: The First 50 Years.” that he spent 2 years putting together.  He told numerous interesting stories about Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs, and others behind the scenes of Apple, and also sang a few of his humorous song parodies.  As you’ll see, he’s a very good presenter.

Doo-Wop Wednesday — The Crests

It’s been a couple months since I posted some of this genre so I guess it’s over-Doo.  This is not really my generation’s music but I had 2 sisters 10 and 12 years older in the house so I did grow up with an appreciation for some of it.

The Crests were formed by bass vocalist J.T. Carter in the mid 1950s. The group had several Top 40 hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s on Coed Records. Their most popular song, “16 Candles”, rose to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1959 selling over one million copies and earning a gold disc status. The group’s other big hits include “Step By Step,”….

1-Hit Wonders – Electric Prunes

ere’s another off-the-wall one that might bring back some more memories from the 60’s for you.

This band was signed to Reprise Records in 1966.  Their first album, The Electric Prunes, included the band’s two nationally charting songs, “I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)” and “Get Me to the World on Time“. but for the life of me, I certainly don’t recall that second one!  The original group disbanded by 1968 but I still use that catchy phrase even though I rarely remember my dreams.
