3-6-9 Tournament Results (12/10)

On Wednesday December 10th Don Simpson held another 369 Double Elimination Tournament.

369 is a game of 9 Ball played a little different. Each of the 3, the 6 and the 9 are “scoring balls”. Once a month Don holds this event with 24 players entered. Each player, based on their skill level, is assigned a handicap and in the December event they ranged from 9 to 12. The first player to reach their number of balls handicap is the winner.

Len Fitzpatrick runs the event for Don and Don pretends he’s the boss for the day! Len did a great job once again. 12 players were in the money with:…

In Memorium – Steve Cropper

Steve Cropper of Booker T. & the MG’s passed on 12/3 and certainly leaves a legacy of music.  In addition to starting that band with Booker T. and being its lead guitarist, he was a songwriter and record producer. He backed artists such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Johnnie Taylor and Neil Young. He also acted as the producer of many of those artists’ records. He was later a member of the Blues Brothers band. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 36th on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists. He won two Grammy Awards out of his seven nominations. Two for Tuesday – 10cc

Let’s head back to the mid-70’s for this week’s 2 For Tuesday.  I’m surprised these guys didn’t have more hits but in looking up their history – just out of curiosity – it sounds like they had lots of internal conflicts before finally splitting up in 1976.

But whatever the reasons, I sure did play these two songs by 10cc quite a bit back in the day.  Enjoy!

Snooker League – Standings (12/09)

Al Brinson League – Final Standings

Gary Nankervis’ team finished strong and ended up in 1st place with 128 points. Jim Turner’s team slipped to 2nd with 125 and just edged out Doug Edwards’ team by one game.   This coming Monday (12/15) is our draft at 11, followed by pizza party.  It looks like we’re going to have 9 teams next session so we’ll have a BYE and should have players to sub each week.  The Captains, Draft and New Schedule are now posted on Bill’s website here.  Links to the same docs are on my page here.

Moody Monday – Go Now!

Instead of a Motown Monday I’m gonna call this one a Moody Monday.  I was a HUGE fan of the Moody Blues back in the 60’s and 70’s and had all their albums from “Days of Future Passed” with “Nights in White Satin” on up thru “Seventh Sojourn” after which I kinda tired of them.  This song was on their first album but I could never find it so I ended up getting it on a 45 – you remember them!

The band didn’t have Justin Hayward and John Lodge back then.  Denny Laine sang lead on this but left in ’65.  Graeme Edge recruited them afterwards.

Silver Lake Classic – Results (12/6)

The results from the Saturday, December 22nd, Silver Lake 9-Ball Handicap Tournament are in.  32 players came together for the second event of four this winter.

The final 8 saw Don Simpson and Colton Keene doing battle with Colton coming out on top in that match and then moving to the final four with Don finishing tied 5th.

Then Steve Luskey and newcomer Dave Knight squared off with Dave advancing to the final four and Steve going home tied 5th. Click Read More for more details and final results…
