It’s been almost a year since posting one of my favorite bands, The Gipsy Kings. If you’re not familiar with them, I highly recommend their live album – it has most of their hits. Check out the audience at this concert in the UK. Wish I was there — looks like a good time was had by all. These guys can really play guitar!
They’re actually from Arles and Montpellier in the south of France and perform in Andalusian Spanish. Although the group members were born in France, their parents were mostly gitanos, Spanish gypsies who fled Catalonia during the 1930s Spanish Civil War.
You certainly don’t need to understand Spanish to feel its emotion but if you’re interested, the English version of the lyrics is below the video. Crank this one up!!
Djobi djoba
Ah, baby
I met you
alone on the street
I feel in love (with you)
I feel sad (when I’m) alone
Djobi djoba
every day I love you more
Djobi djobi djobi djoba
every day I love you more
Djobi djobi djobi djoba
every day I love you more
(repeat once)
I don’t care
about the distance
that separates us
I’m glad I’m retired
and don’t tell me…
Ah, Paraguayan
