Let’s do a little something different this Sunday since tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. Give a listen to one of my favorite bands, The Gipsy Kings. If you’re not familiar with them, I highly recommend their live album – it has most of their hits.
They’re actually from Arles and Montpellier in the south of France and perform in Andalusian Spanish. Although the group members were born in France, their parents were mostly gitanos, Spanish gypsies who fled Catalonia during the 1930s Spanish Civil War.
I listened to this song at least 50 times before finally looking up the meaning of the lyrics. You certainly don’t need to understand Spanish to feel its emotion but if you’re interested, the English version of the lyrics is below the video. Crank this one up!!
Tu Quieres Volver (You Want To Come Back)
You want to come back
and I don’t see you anymore
you want to come back
and I don’t feel anything
Now you’re making me lose my mind
don’t say anything, it’ll always be two o’clock
and we know that night
and on the streets it’ll be the same
You want to come back
and I don’t see you anymore
you want to come back
and I’m not here anymore
I think that day
same as yesterday
it’ll be the same
I think that day
same as yesterday
it’ll be the same
You want to come back
and I don’t see you anymore
you want to come back
and I don’t find anything
you want to come back
and I don’t feel anything
You want to come back
and I don’t find anything
