Motown Monday is back instead of Memorial Monday this week. Still gonna keep the Memorials going – just felt like some Motown this week. Motown was founded by Berry Gordy Jr. as Tamla Records in 1959. One of its first recording artists was Smokey Robinson. “Shop Around“, the Miracles’ first number 1 R&B hit, peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960. It was Tamla’s first million-selling record. That year, Tamla Records became Motown.
