I’m continuing the Monday Music Memorial theme I started last week. Marianne Faithfull passed away last year on January 30th at the age of 78. She and Mick Jagger were partners in the 60’s. Most people will remember her for her 1966 hit, “As Tears Go By” which she sings below on the UK Hullabaloo show.
But in addition to a prolific career in music and UK theater, she was also a big influence on some of the Rolling Stones’ hits – “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” was supposedly written about her. She co-wrote “Sister Morphine” with them but got into legal battle. In her autobiography, Faithfull said Jagger and Richards released it in their own names so that her agent would not collect all the royalties and proceeds from the song, especially as she was homeless and addicted to heroin at the time.
Reminder… You can click in the lower right of a YouTube video to make it full screen. Also, you can use the Posts menu item to filter news posts to a specific category – e.g. Music Videos – to just show those. Give it a shot!
