The HICKEY League

The Men’s Advanced League was managed by Don Hickey for over 17 years.  Don ran both a morning and an afternoon session.  When Don invited me to play in his afternoon league in 2010, everyone just referred to it as “The Hickey League” even though it was listed in the Rec News as “Men’s Advanced League”.  I started tracking scores and stats for him in a spreadsheet in mid-2014.

As Don’s health deteriorated, he handed the morning division over Barry Curtis who then handed the reins over to Ron Boyle a few years later.  The format of the morning league is basically the same as the afternoon one that I run except they have 4-man teams, and they now play on Tuesday afternoons.

In February of 2016 at Don’s going away, recognition party I renamed the league in Don’s honor.  The Daily Sun pic from the party is at right and shows some of the attendees.  If you click on it, you’ll see it full size and be able to make out the names better.  Sadly, Don passed away on June 24, 2018 at the age of 87.

The Hickey League is by invitation only and has always had a long waiting list for new players.  If you would like to get on the waiting list, please send me an email via the Contact Form here or drop in on a Thursday.  Players are voted in by the current members of the league when needed.
