The HICKEY League
The Men’s Advanced League was managed by Don Hickey for over 17 years. When Don invited me to play in his league in 2010, everyone just referred to it as “The Hickey League” even though it was listed in the Rec News as “Men’s Advanced League”. I started tracking scores and stats for him in a spreadsheet in mid-2014.
In February of 2016 at his going away, recognition party I renamed the league in Don’s honor. Sadly, Don passed away on June 24, 2018 at the age of 87. You can click the group picture at right to see it full size.

The Hickey League is by invitation only and has always had a long waiting list for new players.
We play on Thursdays at Silver Lake Rec Center. Warm-up is from 11:00-11:30. If you’re not there by 11:45, you’re late and are marked absent! All games must be completed by 3:30 – no exceptions! There are four teams with five players on each team. Each player plays the opposing team’s 5 guys in 2 games of 8-ball and 2 games of 9-ball for a total of 20 games. Teams play each other twice in a session so it is a 6-week session with the 3rd Thursday of the month off because the Al Parker tournament is held at Silver Lake.
We only use subs when a player is going to be out for a whole session because of health reasons or when traveling. If you are absent or late, you get your absentee score that week as described here. Absentee scores are based on your player level for the session.
The Top-4 scoring players each session become captains for the next session. At the end of each session, Week #6, we have a Captain’s Draft for the upcoming session along with a party.
