(From 12/23/2018) As we for the holidays, I wanted to post a standard — but something done by an artist most may not be familiar. I only recently heard of Gregory Porter this past June when I was up at the Saratoga Springs Jazz Festival in NY.
If you’re curious, as I was, he wears that distinctive hat, specifically a Kangol Summer Spitfire, to cover facial scars from surgery he had as a child. He has described the hat as his “security blanket” and an integral part of his identity as a performer.
