(from 11/27/2018) Well, it’s Two for Tuesday time again so I’m showcasing some LIVE recordings from Booker T. & the M.G’s. The original members of the group were Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Lewie Steinberg (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums). In 1965, Steinberg was replaced by Donald “Duck” Dunn.
In the 1960s, as members of the house band of Stax Records, they played on hundreds of recordings by artists such as Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Bill Withers, Sam & Dave, and Albert King. I can never make up my mind as to which one I like more so here’s both – Enjoy!
I love this first one from 1967 with a clean-cut Steve Cropper on guitar – no pony tail, no beard!
