(From 11/17/2018) I’m sure everyone is familiar with this one but for some reason today I was thinking back to the first album (not 45) that I ever bought. I actually wore out 3 copies of this. Brubeck’s classic is what got me into jazz when I was 15 and made me regret not staying with those piano lessons.
Many years later, when I was working for a sound company in the mid-80’s, we were setting up equipment for a concert he was doing. Not the original band, of course – as a matter of fact, his son, Darius, was on bass. Dave was sitting in the empty audience seats getting interviewed by some newspaper reporter in Philly. Somehow I had the nerve to walk over and shake his hand — but was too awestruck to ask for an autograph. I’m not sure where/when this was done but it’s definitely my fave.
