I’m gonna keep the positive theme from last week going (see Playing For Change by The Band here) but in a different sort of way. I’m calling it Monday Memorials which may sound a bit morose but we’ve had so many great and inspiring musicians pass recently that I’m hoping this is more uplifting than sad.
I’m going to start with a truly inspirational singer who was one of Jamaica’s most celebrated musicians and what I think is an appropriate song to kick this off. Jimmy Cliff wrote and recorded “Many Rivers To Cross” which was done by many others after him. If you get a chance, check out the movie about his life on Netflix – “The Harder They Come” – lots of good music.
Jimmy passed this passed November at the age of 81. I’ll be honoring other artists on upcoming Mondays – not necessarily in any particular order.
BTW…That’s Jools Holland playing keyboards. I used to watch his “Later with Jools Holland” TV show. Bonus points if you recognized him and know the band he famously played with for years.
Reminder… You can click in the lower right of a YouTube video to make it full screen. Also, you can use the Posts menu item to filter news posts to a specific category – e.g. Music Videos – to just show those. Give it a shot!
