Mediterranean Sundance Sunday

I just noticed the original video I posted got changed to Private so I found this one to replace it and I’m re-posting it in case you missed it the first time

Let’s listen to another song that is on every flash drive of tunes that I travel with. This one always brings back fond memories of when I was working in that same stereo store that got me hooked on “Friday With Frank” and “Sunday With Sinatra” back in the 70’s.

We would sit around and compare speakers by listening to the Elegant Gypsy album with flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia and Al Dimeola from Return To Forever (with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White) going back-and-forth in each speaker.

Even in the car this sounds great when you crank it up…ENJOY!

It’s March Mashup Time…

Nothing gets me out of the doldrums and puts a smile on my face like a good mashup of old movies set to a modern song.  In this case it’s Kylie Minogue’s “Step Back In Time” and about 100 classic musicals.  See how many you can recall…

I can’t believe how many I knew!  Guess I’ve been watching too much of the TCM channel… NAH!  It’s kinda funny though that I just watched “Seven Brides For Seven Brothers” two days ago.  That clip is about halfway thru.

Make this one full screen and crank it up.  It will definitely bring a smile to your face!

Boogie-Woogie Wednesday

Time for another Boogie-Woogie Wednesday..this time with Dr. John and Jools Holland playing on Saturday Night Live back in 1988.  Dr. John, was an American singer, songwriter and pianist. His music combined New Orleans blues, jazz, R&B, soul and funk.  I’ve posted other Jools Holland videos here.  He was an original member of the band, Squeeze (“Tempted“, “Pulling Mussels From the Shell“,etc.) and host of “Later…with Jools Holland“.  Every now and again they show reruns and you should search them out.  He had some great guests.

And in the meantime, I’m gonna make a note to locate some Squeeze videos…

Two for Tuesday – Skyliners

The Skyliners were an American doo-wop group from Pittsburgh. The original lineup was: Jimmy Beaumont (lead), Janet Vogel Rapp (soprano), Wally Lester (tenor), Jackie Taylor (bass voice, guitarist), Joe Verscharen (baritone). They were best known for their 1959 hit, “Since I Don’t Have You” but one of their other hits, “This I Swear” is another of my faves. I had two sisters 10 years older than me so I grew up with lots of 50’s music in the house!

Still haven’t figured out why they’re wearing the cowboy costumes in the first video-:)
